Just days after launching our EU-supported disinformation resilience initiative in Northwestern Nigeria, members of our team are in 🇬🇳 this weekend, training journalists ahead of the country’s elections happening next weekend.

Guinea now becomes the 10th African country where @CJIDAfrica, through @DubawaFR has supported the media ecosystem with training around fact-checking, media and information literacy, verification, OSINT, and information integrity.

Back in October 2025, our partnership with the West Africa Network for Peacebuilding (@WANEP_Regional), focused on promoting a peaceful and credible Guinea Referendum, created the opportunity for CJID’s work in Guinea to officially begin through engagements around the country’s media and information ecosystem.

As Guinea prepares for a crucial electoral moment, supporting journalists and strengthening trusted information systems becomes even more important. For us as an organisation, this is another important step in our broader mission to strengthen democratic resilience and credible public communication across West Africa. Recently, CJID wrapped up a 3-day European Union-supported "Media and Information Literacy Training of Trainers" in Sokoto State, focused on addressing the impact of misinformation, digital threats, and poor data protection practices.

The training emphasized the importance of responsible online behaviour, fact-checking, and critical thinking, especially among young internet users, as part of efforts to build a more informed and safer society in the state.

Today, CJID officially launched Countering Disinformation and Empowering Democracy in Northwestern Nigeria with support from the European Union.

The launch brought together government institutions, security actors, academia, media organisations, civil society groups, community leaders, and young people around one urgent reality: in fragile environments, disinformation goes beyond a media problem. It fuels fear, deepens mistrust, and can accelerate violence.

The 18-month intervention will focus on strengthening media literacy, fact-checking, OSINT, early-warning monitoring, community engagement, and local-language resilience initiatives across Northwestern Nigeria.🇳🇬
