🔴OFF DUTY POLICE OFFICERS RESCUE KIDNAPPING VICTIM IN SOWETO

PARKTOWN - In a swift response, two off-duty police officers from Kliptown and Jabulani @SAPoliceService acted on information about a kidnapping in Jabulani, Soweto, on Saturday, 14 September 2024. Their quick action led to the rescue of the victim and the arrest of one suspect, while the search for additional suspects continues.

Constable Xolani Majuda Xaba and Constable Thulani Siphiwe Hlatshwayo placed themselves on duty after receiving information about a person kidnapped at Jabulani Mall. Acting without delay, the officers tracked down the suspects. Behind Jabulani hostel, they found one victim surrounded by six males. As they approached, five suspects fled, leaving one behind, who was promptly arrested. It was discovered that the suspects had already demanded a ransom of seven thousand rands from the victim’s parents.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the victim had met the suspects through a Facebook dating page, and the meeting point at Jabulani Mall turned into an abduction. Police are once again urging the public to be cautious when interacting with strangers on social media, as this incident is part of a recent pattern of similar kidnappings in Soweto.
