my friends did a play of Anne Frank, there's essentially a background check to even get nazi patches and shit for the play, and after you do have to prove that they were destroyed, like this, cut and then burnt.
local libraries should do summer reading challenges for adults too??? I want a little sticker and a reward after finishing a book too, what do y'all think?
Finding Dory is such a strange movie, because "escape artist octopus wants to get out of an aquarium" is such a classic slam-dunk Pixar premise, and for some reason they hid it in the B-plot of a Finding Nemo sequel
There is no need for meta glasses. There is no need to record all the time. There is no need to be online all the time. there is no need to record adult strangers without their consent or children. It’s dangerous and it’s invasive for the sake of being invasive.
My wife had a rare chance to sleep in, so my 3-year-old son and I woke up early and decided to surprise her by cleaning the kitchen. He loves “helping” with chores....mostly because he gets to play with the mop like it’s a spaceship.
We were in full mopping mode when I heard her coming down the stairs. My son’s eyes went wide with panic. He dropped his little mop, threw his hands up dramatically like a tiny traffic cop, and screamed at the top of his lungs:
3yo: “NOOOO! Mommy, stop! We are mopping the floors, ELENA! Do NOT come into the kitchen!”
My wife froze mid-step on the stairs, looking completely stunned. This was the first time he had ever called her by her actual name instead of “Mommy.”
She blinked a few times and said, “Did… did he just call me Elena?”
Me (laughing): “Yep. He’s very serious about his mopping, apparently. You are now banned from the kitchen, Elena.”
Our son stood there guarding the wet floor like a proud little sentinel, hands on his hips.
3yo (very stern): “The floor is wet! You will slip and fall! Daddy and me are cleaning for you!”
My wife started cracking up from the stairs.
Wife: “Oh my gosh, I’ve been demoted from Mommy to Elena because I might ruin the clean floor. I feel so honored.”
Me: “He’s been calling you Elena for the last ten minutes while we’ve been mopping. I think he’s asserting dominance.”
3yo (nodding seriously): “Yes. Elena, go back upstairs. The floor is still… still… slippery!”
My wife leaned against the wall, pretending to be heartbroken.
Wife: “My own son won’t even let me into my kitchen. This is betrayal.”
She crouched down and said in her best dramatic voice:
Wife: “But baby, I just wanted to make you pancakes…”
Our son thought about it for a second, then very generously offered:
3yo: “Okay… you can come. But only if you walk… like a penguin. Very slow.”
We all lost it laughing. My wife ended up penguin-walking across the kitchen while our son supervised her like a tiny construction foreman.
Me: “This is the proudest I’ve ever been of you, little man. Protecting the clean floor at all costs.”
3yo (beaming): “I’m a good cleaner, Daddy!”
That moment was so perfectly ridiculous and sweet. My wild, energetic 3-year-old went full boss mode and called his mom by her government name just to protect his mopping masterpiece.
I’ll take these chaotic, hilarious little memories forever.
not to alarm anyone... but if we lose our coral reefs it also means losing the ocean’s food chain, and our oxygen cycle, food supplies, starts a societal collapse, and then our earth is fucked for real...
