Dropping a couple of slides from a breakout session I presented a the CIMA conference in Austin. Through a Content-Based Language Instruction approach, emergent #bilingual students experience higher-quality learning in all content areas and grade levels. Languages never need to stop developing.

I love sharing this session with schools and districts. It’s always an eye opener.

Speaking more than one language is a gift. #Multilingualism doesn’t develop overnight—it flourishes when nurtured with the right conditions.

In the past, and in some cases even today, students learning #English have been placed in lower grades or denied access to grade-level instruction. This is unacceptable. Instead, we must ensure that grade-level content is made comprehensible through intentional linguistic supports. Every classroom and lesson should provide opportunities for students to grow in listening, speaking, reading, and writing while building content knowledge every day.
