Australia’s first diplomatic mission to China was the Chungking Legation, now in modern day Chongqing’s E’ling Park. While in southwest China this week, Ambassador Fletcher took a stroll through time, commenting on the rich history of the Legation site and its ongoing importance.

During his visit to southwest China this week, Ambassador Fletcher engaged with local business, government representatives, as well as Australian investors and alumni at receptions held in both @Chengdu_China and Chongqing.

On Friday, Australia’s Consul-General in Chengdu judged the final round of the Chongqing Meets Australia competition after listening to speeches in English by local students. C-G Neary also signed an MoU on tourism ties with the Chongqing Tourism Commission and Tourism Australia.
