The journey toward powering our educational institutions with clean, reliable energy continues to gather momentum as we near the completion of the projects under the Energizing Education Programme Phase III.

Today, we celebrate a significant milestone with completion of the construction phase at the Federal University Lokoja.

This 1.7MW solar hybrid system is more than just infrastructure, it embodies a commitment to powering learning, innovation, and opportunity. Alongside the power plant, over 200 streetlights have been installed throughout the campus, equating to over 6,550 meters total road length of street-lighting distribution network having been deployed, the downstream distribution network has been upgraded, and a world class Renewable Energy Training Centre has been established and is set to train at least 100 students annually.

When this project began, Federal University Lokoja had around 13,000 students. Today, that student base has almost tripled to over 30,000, plus over 50 jobs created within the campus vicinity, underscoring the transformational impact of interventions like the EEP.

A special acknowledgment to ZnShine PV-Tech Limited, the EPC contractor driving this project forward, and to all our partners who continue to make the vision of sustainable power for Nigeria’s tertiary institutions, a reality.

Yesterday in Gombe, we took another bold step toward sustainable growth and inclusion. Together with the Government of Gombe State, we broke ground for a 1MW solar-hybrid mini-grid that will power over 8,000 households and more than 100 small and medium-sized enterprises, while also launching 200 electric tricycles and 50 power grinders to boost livelihoods across the state.

This initiative represents more than infrastructure, it’s about enabling productivity, improving incomes, and reimagining what access to clean energy can mean for communities. I’m deeply grateful to His Excellency, the Governor of Gombe State, for his unwavering support and commitment to creating the right environment for these kinds of transformative partnerships.

Under the $750 million World Bank funded programme, Nigeria’s largest publicly financed renewable energy initiative, the REA remains steadfast in scaling such projects nationwide, with 22 more projects already approved across 10 Local Government Areas in Gombe.

Together, we are proving that with the right collaboration, energy access can power prosperity.
