India's largest single-cohort police hiring happened in Uttar Pradesh. That sentence alone is worth sitting with.
Over 60,000 civil police constables recruited, trained, and inducted simultaneously. To put the scale in perspective, in 2017 the state could train barely 3,000 recruits at one time. By the time this drive concluded, that same state was training 60,000 across specialised centres and district police lines at once.
The niyat was that UP's law enforcement couldn't be built on a foundation of ad-hoc, politically mediated hiring. The niti was to build the institutional capacity to absorb recruitment at a scale the state had never attempted, while keeping the process completely airtight. And within that single drive, over 12,000 women constables were inducted, not as a quota exercise but as a structural push for gender inclusion in law enforcement.
The natija across nine years is over 2 lakh direct recruitments into UP Police, paired with over 1 lakh departmental promotions. A force rebuilt from the ground up.
