1/6 🎵 @BBCRD wanted to create a music discovery service without personalised algorithms, so we made Orbit in collaboration with @bbcintroducing https://t.co/Z0jrDHpUno
Two fantastic opportunities to work in The Responsible Innovation Centre (RIC), hosted in @BBCRD
RIC Research centre and network co-ordinator: https://t.co/76hJg33Jti
RIC Communication and engagement lead: https://t.co/weXJC6WZU2
"The BBC is to cut a quarter of its research and development (R&D) division - equating to 67 roles - as part of a new voluntary redundancy scheme."
"The first round of cuts will see the 260 staff who currently work in the R&D division reduced to 193."
“BBC plans 500 job cuts in push for more cost savings”
Redundancies can have a major impact on workers mental health (and not just those directly losing their jobs).
If you’re affected by today’s news the @FilmTVCharity is here for you.

This fully funded studentship has a generous stipend and research and training funds.
The fees are normally covered at the UK rate, but we can waive the difference for European/International candidates in exceptional cases.
I have an excellent opportunity for a fully funded PhD studentship in Responsible AI Literacy for Journalism.
As part of the research, the student will work with the BBC @BBCRD.

So ... the New Dawn Fades..
Today is my last day as an employee of the BBC and @bbcrd.
It’s been an absolute blast and a privilege to be part of this place but time to move on - a new challenge awaits after some weeks of digital detox.
Our next speaker of this morning’s #BelTech24 EDU Day is Antonia Kerle, Chief Technical Advisor of R&D @BBCNews.
Antonia is showing students how technology can be applied across the BBC archive to restore old footage and bring archives to life.
Say goodbye to one-size-fits-all podcasting. 👋
Learn how you can make each episode adapt to the needs of your listener with @cubicgarden from the @BBCRD team.

I was recommissioned years later to look at the future of #iot for the BBC and during the pandemic to support their Human Values work. I even called Adrian once in a while for career advice. A wonderful contributor to @BBCRD history.

Going to @adew@libbymiller leaving drinks later and gosh it was 15 years ago that I first worked with them on the future of remote controls. #endofanera#iot

And I am so grateful for the opportunity 🙏 And also to have been able to witness and learn from the work culture you built at the @BBCRD . It was creative, collaborative and competent at the same time 😊
As I complete review of my 23 years at BBC - keep surfacing up things to be proud of...
This time a list of PhD’s including @neelimasunil
A wonderful bunch of researchers - impressive to see where they are now.

We need your help! I'm helping legendary @NFFC@Arsenal@EnglandFootball striker, Tony Woodcock, find his biological father after he found out from a DNA test that his father wasn't who he thought it was.
We have snippets of information about who his biological father was.
We know his father was #Polish. We think his name was Peter - we don't know his surname. He was apparently the head dyer at Giltbrook Dyers & Cleaners in #Nottingham (no records remain) in the 1950s. We're hoping that someone may see this and it jogs their memory. If you have any information, do get in touch. Please RT to spread far and wide! 😊
