This is the longest stretch of good mood I have ever been in as an adult.
5 straight days of unadulterated happiness is something I never thought was possible. lmao
Seattle Police officer Daniel Auderer cackled in response to the death of Jaanhavi Kandula, a young Indian exchange student, after she was run over by a police vehicle. And he said her life "had limited value."
Working people need to demand an independent, public investigation into this outrage.
But it's not surprising that, according to @dubseatv, Auderer has been the subject of 18 investigations, not one of them having resulted in him being fired, let alone facing legal consequences. He's far from an exception in police departments nationwide — under both Democrats & Republicans — which use excessive force with impunity, especially against the poor, those facing mental health challenges, women, and marginalized communities.
The so-called Office of Professional Accountability has singularly failed to hold Seattle Police accountable — cops overseeing cops will never work.
We need independently elected community oversight with full powers over the police. But to win this, working people will need to organize independently of the Democratic Party.
