How to never forget a Chinese word:
1. Learn it in a sentence, not isolation
2. Use it in conversation within 24 hours
3. Connect it to a personal memory
4. Hear it from 3+ different people
Words without context die. Words with stories live forever.

• currently living in taiwan to study chinese
• speaks indonesian (native), english (advanced/bilingual), mandarin chinese 繁體字 (around B1 level)
looking for fellow mandarin learners!!
since i see a lot of discussion about
“how important is it to learn tones when learning chinese / learning tones is not very important and placing too much emphasis on it scares people from learning chinese / etc”
here’s my take on it as someone learning chinese in taiwan
i understand how daunting it is for beginners to learn chinese, and no matter what part of the world you are, if your native tongue is tone-less then it doesn’t come very easily to us
but the good news is, the longer you study the more you get used to it
