To Whom It May Concern
The peace of Yorùbá land must not be taken for granted.
While our region continues to face threats from terrorists, kidnappers, criminal networks and other external dangers, it is deeply concerning that a new form of internal extremism is emerging through growing hostility against Islam and Muslims by some adherents of Ìṣẹ̀ṣe.
This is not about denying anyone the right to practise his or her religion. Every individual is entitled to freedom of belief. However, no religion should be weaponised to threaten, insult, intimidate or incite violence against another religious community.
The recent escalation from social media attacks to public campaigns targeting Islam and Muslims should concern every responsible Yorùbá person. History teaches us that conflicts often begin with words before they develop into something far more dangerous.
Yorùbá land cannot afford internal division at a time when external threats already exist. A divided people become vulnerable to those who seek to destabilise them.
The public must not be deceived into believing that Ìṣẹ̀ṣe alone represents Yorùbá identity. Yorùbá land belongs to Muslims, Christians, traditionalists and others alike. All have contributed immensely to the development, preservation and promotion of Yorùbá language, culture and civilisation.
No group has the right to monopolise Yorùbá identity.
No religion has the right to claim exclusive ownership of Yorùbá heritage.
No political movement has the right to turn cultural consciousness into hatred against fellow Yorùbá people.
If there are religious disagreements, let them be addressed through responsible debate, scholarship and dialogue—not through public insults, provocation and campaigns of hostility.
Freedom of religion must be protected for all. Religious coercion, threats and intimidation have no place in a modern and peaceful society.
I therefore call on traditional rulers, community leaders, security agencies, religious leaders and all responsible Yorùbá sons and daughters to reject extremism, condemn incitement, promote peaceful coexistence and protect the unity and stability of our region.
The peace of Yorùbá land is greater than every sectarian agenda.
The security of our people is greater than every political manipulation.
The future of our children is greater than every extremist campaign.
May peace, justice, wisdom and security continue to prevail throughout Yorùbá land.
