After the election results, in which the Communists returned to power, a Kerala Communist publication released a cartoon depicting Kerala chasing Lord Sri Ram, while Lord Ayyappa is shown hiding behind a tree.

Apparently, many self-proclaimed "secular Hindus" in Kerala are comfortable with such depictions of their own deities and continue to support those who portray them this way.

If we question such portrayals or respond in protest, we are often labeled as "communal." Is this the message that a state claiming 100% literacy wants to send to the rest of the country?

It also raises the question of why such publications appear willing to mock Hindu deities, while similar depictions of gods or religious figures from other faiths are never seen.

That’s one thing that is very admirable about Jains. They have maintained strict dress code and sanctity of their local Derasars and Pilgrimage places (atleast in Gujarat and Marwar). They also worship in same ways as their ancestors in medieval times.

That’s also the reason I find this argument of “Hindus temple culture of north degraded due to Islamic invasion argument very bogus”. There is no reason to assume that what affected one dharmic community didn’t affect other. That degradation is the result of degradation of Hindu society and diminished respect for Brahmins/ temple priests.
