Yes, definitely. Character is plot! I need to thoroughly understand why the crime was committed, and by whom, before I start plotting clues and red herrings.
58 years of membership. Gone in one announcement.
The UAE just quit OPEC AND OPEC+, and one analyst says it is "the beginning of the end" of the world's most powerful oil cartel.
Here is why this changes everything 🧵
First casualty of AI?
KPMG’s UK arm has warned about 600 audit employees that their roles may be cut amid restructuring. Final layoffs depend on consultation outcomes.
The move mainly targets audit staff, driven by cost pressures and shifting demand, as the firm adjusts workforce size and skills to current market conditions.
The RBI has asked banks to provide basic services to customers from any branch, not just home branches, and to reduce and standardise service charges.
Banks must disclose services available across all branches on their websites. To address wide fee variations, lenders may cap charges or fix ranges. The move aims to improve customer service and grievance redress, as bank related complaints remain high, especially against private sector banks.
The new labour laws require that basic salary must be at least 50% of an employee’s total CTC. Today many companies keep basic pay low and use allowances to increase take home salary. Under the new rule basic pay will rise, which directly increases PF and gratuity since both are calculated on basic.
This means long term benefits improve but the in hand salary may drop because higher PF contribution reduces monthly take home.
For companies this also raises their own PF outflow. So unless employers increase the total CTC many employees will see a smaller monthly salary even though their retirement benefits grow.
Starting October 2025, a set of important changes will come into force across banking, postal services, and more. Here are the highlights:
1. Cheque processing will shift from batch clearing to a continuous clearing model with settlement on realization. This transition will occur in two phases: Phase 1 starting Oct 4, 2025, until Jan 2, 2026, and Phase 2 beginning Jan 3, 2026.
2. IRCTC will implement new guidelines for ticket booking on its app/website. Aadhaar authentication will be mandatory for certain general ticket bookings, aiming to curb misuse of the reservation system.
3. India Post’s Speed Post service will see rate hikes. Also, they will now show GST separately and introduce OTP-based delivery (i.e. delivery only after OTP verification) to improve security.
4. Non-government NPS subscribers will be allowed to allocate their funds entirely into equity under a single plan. Also, they can maintain multiple NPS schemes across different CRAs (like CAMS, KFintech, Protean) under one PRAN.
The Income-Tax Department has uncovered fraudulent exemption claims worth about ₹700 crore, mainly involving high-income taxpayers using fake medical and donation deductions.
Refunds above ₹10 lakh are facing delays due to stricter checks.
Using AI and data analytics, officials are verifying repeat offenders, prompting taxpayers to revise returns. Refund payouts dropped 24% this year. A recent crackdown led to withdrawal of false claims worth ₹963 crore and additional taxes of ₹409 crore.
