India's prisons are turning into the epicentre of the pandemic. In this thread, I have collated the news reports for COVID-19 infections among inmates and prison staff.

@lallasahab and #MohitRaj write in @idr_online: Prison reform in India is deeply siloed. Moving from mere confinement to true rehabilitation requires sustained funding, policy reorientation, and spaces for co-learning.
Pleased to share my article, “Constitution of Criminality: Role of India’s Constitution-Making Process in Legitimising Notions of Hereditary Criminality”, published in 𝗢𝘅𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗱 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀: Racism by Context

The decision to remove the caste column from prison records sounds excessive and needs clarification! Removing this information will not remove caste markers like surname, but risks erasing records and lived reality of caste-based oppression in prison social life.

Sr Adv S Murlidhar mentions of an application moved by Journalist @sukanyashantha seeking clarification of direction to delete caste columns in the recent judgment laying down guidelines for the prevention of segregation and division of labour solely on the basis of the caste of the prisoners in Prisons
"For us, it's one criminal passing the torch to the next." Bisan Owda asked Palestinians what they think of the U.S. election.
Here's what they told her.
If the child in this unfortunate lady's womb grows up to be educated and finds a job, they will be considered creamy layer and all the indignation and inhuman treatment will be undone and UC will still be crying for 'merit'.
"Legal reforms alone cannot overcome centuries of oppression. For real change, we must first recognise the power structures that uphold caste hierarchies and work to transform not only the legal frameworks but also the mindsets that sustain them."
While the Supreme Court of India’s striking down of caste-based practices in #prisons is significant, the directive to remove #caste references from prison records needs reconsideration, write Aditya Ranjan and Ashna Devaprasad

"In recent years, we have witnessed judges in constitutional courts mocking officers from caste-oppressed communities, calling for Brahmins to always be at the helm, blaming reservations for having destroyed the country, & branding a Muslim-dominated area of a city as “Pakistan”

A couple of years back, my super-talented friends at @Vidhi_India, @ShreyaTripathy3 and Reshma tried to re-imagine how our consumer courts should look like and identified a list of non-negotiables for consumer forum infrastructure. Do give it a read!

Consumer Forums across the country is struggling due to limited storage space, lack of infrastructure planning, and non-existent utilities for litigants and officers.
This is a consumer forum in Delhi--- case files on a kitchen sink, non-functional ACs, staff vacancies & mounting pendency.
While Dwarka commission got ACs on rent after an order went viral, other fora haven't been so lucky.

Abysmal consumer support at @JioCare. In March I applied for Jio Fiber at my place and was approached by their sales representative. The Sales Representative made me pay twice for the service, under the impression that I would receive a refund for the first payment.
@JioCare@JioCare I have shared the correct ORN. I have sent you the ss of the payment made and the request for payment as well. Please fix this and stop blaming others for your lack of service
