it's not that he cannot be a soloist, it's that being a successful soloist is way more difficult than it looks. he ditched a successful group for distinctive artistic vision, only to turn out to be overglazed by fans from outsiders' perspective. naturally, even non-fans who don't dislike him find his solo debut over-promised, under-delivered.
