New carbon monoxide (CO) alarm requirements apply to condos and apartments!

If CO can get into your unit, including from a garage, service room, fuel-burning appliance, or building ventilation system, you need a CO alarm.
New rules take effect January 1, 2026.

The Fire Code has updates that will affect you starting January 1st, 2026. You now need Carbon Monoxide alarms on every level of your home, and outside sleeping areas, if you have a fuel burning appliance, attached garage, or fireplace. Know the law!

That's right. The Office of the Fire Marshal does not recommend using fire blankets for kitchen fires but instead recommends keeping a fitted lid close by when cooking to slide over the pot, turning off the stove, and not moving the pot until it has cooled. #FireSafety

🔌 Pull the plug on electrical fires. Avoid overloading the circuit with “octopus-outlet”. Use extension cords as a temporary connection only. Check electrical cords for damage such as fraying or nicks. Have a licensed electrician install additional outlets if needed.
