@transshollander @awkotacogf13 I understand what you're getting at, but in contract terms, restructuring only applies to reworking of the current contract. You're just talking about negotiating a new one, but a player like Ilya would never sign somewhere like that without a massive long-term deal.

@awkotacogf13 @transshollander NHL contracts cannot be restructured or renegotiated once they're signed, so Ilya would not be allowed to do that. Shane would realistically take a hometown discount on a short-term contract until the salary cap increased enough to sign a long-term deal for more AAV.
