@FilmThePoliceLA@EskanderMatt@LATACO Also happened to a student journalist from LA City College this June. LAPD severed the tip of his finger with a foam round (probably 40mm) and it had to be surgically reattached.
We’re very excited to welcome @adjoro as our new deputy director of advocacy on the @FreedomofPress team!
He’ll primarily focus on protecting local press freedom, so reach out if you’re a journalist who needs help. https://t.co/MBvcIFZdck
A win for the First Amendment. Thank you to @LAPressClub press rights chair @adjoro for leading the charge on this. Judge issues sharp rebukes of the LAPD and federal agents after anti-ICE protests https://t.co/oNBIsBYiBa
“I’ve spent countless hours compiling evidence of police misconduct toward journalists in L.A.. The attacks this summer have been relentless,” said @adjoro of @LAPressClub. “This decision affirms our right to be free from violence while doing our jobs.”
Vera found that DHS agents fired tear gas, rubber bullets, pepper balls at people who were clearly marked as journalists. “The First Amendment demands better,” he wrote in a preliminary injunction.

Last night a federal judge in L.A. blocked federal agents from DHS from using crowd-dispersal techniques and less-lethal munitions against journalists covering protests. He cited an “avalanche of evidence” that ICE and CBP agents violated First Amendment rights of journalists.
“The blood of journalists is quite literally being spilled in our streets. And the companies that employ these journalists are telling them to put a sock in it.”
Watch @LAPressClub's @adjoro explain why this is not just a press freedom issue — but a labor issue too.
Barring press from talking about facing abuse allows officers to act with impunity. If you've encountered this, @uspresstracker can record your experience anonymously.

"Democracy cannot function without an informed public, but an informed public cannot exist without a free press,” said @adjoro of @lapressclub following the release of journalist Anthony Orendorff, who was arrested and jailed for covering an ICE protest. https://t.co/d8OjlSb5JL
#LAPD officers arrested journalist Anthony Orendorff while he was documenting a federal immigration raid in Pacoima.
He was jailed for four days without bail before charges were dropped.

JOURNALISTS IN LOS ANGELES: Any safety gear you need to cover protests? I've been researching appropriate ratings (z87+ goggles, p100 filters, level iiia soft armor) and will seek donations/discounts to LA Press Club, esp. to help freelance/independent with limited budget.

NEW: After suing the LAPD and L.A. County Sheriff, the L.A. Press Club has sued the Department of Homeland Security and Secretary Kristi Noem alleging ICE, CBP, and HSI agents used excessive force and violated journalists' First Amendment rights while covering the L.A. protests.
I had a few things to say on TV today about why the Los Angeles Press Club reached this point where we had to sue over LAPD's misconduct toward journalists.
Thank you Spectrum News 1 for shining a spotlight on important civic issues in our community.
