@DominicRaab ... Thirdly you mention £135 million invested in legal aid to build a sustainable system for the future. Only £35 million of this will eventually go to barristers. There will be no barristers left by then to sustain any system. Please apply Bellamy's findings in full.

@DominicRaab .. Secondly there is no "typical" criminal barrister that would earn £7,000 more per year, junior barristers earn a median of £12,200. 15% of £12,200 is not £7,000. It is £1830. If you expect barristers to wait until 2024 for an increase of £1830 then the exodus will continue.

@DominicRaab Dear Mr. Raab, unfortunately this message is incorrect in a number of respects. Firstly Criminal barristers won't "receive"15% increase from September. The rise applies to LA orders from 1st October and won't apply until the end of those cases probably reached sometime in 2024

@TheCriminalBar The govt. have missed the point. Delay in trials affects victims and witnesses as well as defendants. The anxiety and worry of going to court, of trying to remember details, of wanting to move on from a traumatic incident are not "peace of mind".

There should be real concern over the lengthening of pre trial detention.

Not just about the guilty. The innocent can also be detained for up to 8m & then this can be extended

More delay for victims.

All because gov’t refuses to resource courts & get jury trials up & running

Those behind this video are unaware of the reality - underfunded lawyers on both sides with mutual respect for each other working to ensure fair trials for all.

Today my ex pupil who is not long into her 2nd six for her client bailed to a mental health unit. By the time the court released him bed was gone. She spent all afternoon finding him another. The hospital refused to take him unless he was with a police or probation officer 1/2

Having prosecuted and defended rape cases most of my career its obvious why rape prosecutions are down ... police not wanting to charge and using RUI, CPS not trusting juries, pre-judging evidence and MoJ not wanting to spend money restricting sitting days influencing it all ...
