Kicked off Tier 3 groups today focusing on fractions. Began with a simple prompt: “what could you swap the 1/2 fraction piece for?” So amazed by the engagement! When it feels like play, it’s easy to take risks.

Working with a 5/6 math class to set the norms for small group instruction. Brainstormed what it should look like, practiced, and gave feedback. The next time we tried, Ss blew us away!! They were proud of themselves and loved getting focused time with the T!

Fun with fractional reasoning while mom makes dinner: how many combinations can you make that equal 1 whole?

This led to reading each combination as an addition sentence: “1/6 plus 2/8 plus 1/12 plus 1/2 makes one whole.”
