Ngl studying Engineering made me discover my love for the Humanities.
I have the soul of an artist, a poet, a writer, a philosopher an historian that’s what I am.
I wasn’t made to do Zero Integer Linear Programming or design beams/columns.I should be writing policy essays instead
Very Kierkegaardian take on Vicky Cristina Barcelona, by Woody Allen.
You can’t repeat an experience. It happens in an unrepeatable “now". Every beautiful experience becomes a kind of condemnation.
the ONLY thing which could EVER drive a man to endure this sort of nonsense is HORNINESS
and the only thing that could drive WOMEN to engage in this sort of bullshit is BOREDOM
so you have the WORST possible combination of intentions going in, people think they're finding LOVE on these apps?
delusional
the willingness to sacrifice your soul, and the souls of others,
is a fundamental driving force in the greatest men of history.
e.g. julius caesar wanted to be the number 1 man in Rome.
in the republic, this was the position of consul.
now around the time the elections for consul were being held, caesar just came back from crushing rebel tribes in Spain, and because of his great leadership, his soldiers nominated him for a triumph.
a triumph was basically the highest achievement a Roman could ever be granted, and was very rare.
the whole city would be shut down, you'd ride through on a golden chariot wearing a wreath of laurels, your face painted red to represent their most powerful god - jupiter.
everyone would have a massive feast and talk about how great and wonderful you are.
the problem was even though the senate were willing to grant him this, he would have to wait outside the borders of Rome until they were done with preparations.
however, the elections for consul were going to happen before then.
so he had to make a choice between one or the other.
a triumph, or stand for election.
the moment he gets a letter saying this, he instantly got on his horse and rode through the gates of Rome, effectively forfeiting his triumph,
just to HAVE THE CHANCE to be consul 1 year earlier.
think about this for a second.
this is like someone coming up to you and saying,
"tomorrow we'll have a national day especially for you.
everyone will have the day off work, and we'll all celebrate your life and your achievements.
statues of you will be crafted in your honour. food and drink will be given out to everyone.
we'll remember it for decades.
HOWEVER, if you ever want to run for president,
you'll have to wait until you're 36 years old."
now think about how BADLY you'd want to be president for you to give up that honour and run for president just a little earlier.
for caesar, there was NOTHING stopping him from getting what he wanted.
he would put his life, and the lives of thousands of innocent Romans, on the roll of a dice.
he even went on to kill 10,000+ fellow Romans in a bloody civil war with Pompey,
who had more than 2x the soldiers Caesar had,
just for the slim chance that he wins and becomes the ultimate ruler of rome.
this war led to the destruction of the republic,
the creation of the Roman Empire, and Caesar becoming a demi-god to the Roman populace, who declared him dictator for life.
(he also eventually had a triumph after the civil war,
which was 1000X bigger than what he would have gotten if he claimed it all those years before)
@sayuti_umar@lordzuz2 Also why so many people complain now that time flies by.
Create amazing moments everyday and your life will be full and whole. Have just one or two good moments life just passes you by, and you look back on it and wonder where the time went
Friendly reminder
Oil takes months to extract, refine, and ship worldwide. Yet, a conflict starts overseas and gas prices spike the very next day. The fuel at your local station was purchased months ago. That immediate price hike is a completely rigged monopoly.
