@BillGardenSA@dube_mthoko@FARPostZA Same was said when Mokoena moved to Sundowns from Supersport. Joining any team does not guarantee automatic regular game time to a player. Compete and excel to be considered. Cele is good but will compete with equally good players like Allende, Santos, Aubass, Mokoena etc.
@iDiskiTimes Barker lost many key players at Stellenbosch but still held fort even in CAF competitions. He is the most overlooked coach in SA. The next Sundowns coach!
#CharambaAttacksOnMasukuWrong#AnUltimateDisplayOfHisCowardice
While Zimbabweans, especially from the political sphere, media community and religious circles, celebrated the late journalist John Masuku's illustrious career, feats and legacy, President Emmerson Mnangagwa's spokesperson George Charamba was trying to construct a disingenuous, malicious and unsustainable narrative to paint him as an agent of Rhodesian propaganda, colonial interests and Western designs because he started work at the Rhodesian Broadcasting Corporation (RBC), forerunner to the Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation (ZBC).
Posturing as a custodian of the liberation struggle history and memory, when he never went to war even though some of his contemporaries did as youths,
Charamba attacked Masuku as a "a colonial-time radio announcer who, thanks to Independence, got upgraded to a radio journalist".
"The role of African announcers in the RBC was to turn Rhodesian propaganda into vernacular idiom for maximum impact on rural listeners who were the bedrock of the struggle," he wrote.
"John Masuku was part of this team."
Charamba went on claim that three key Western countries after 2000 "started" extraterritorial broadcasts "aimed at ventilating interests of white-landed gentry, and at challenging the Zanu PF-led Land Restitution Programme".
"These were UK, America and Netherlands. The instruments were (Voice of America) VOA, SW-Radio and (Voice of the People) VOP respectively," he said.
"John Masuku presided over VOP, a role which harkened to his colonial-time anti-Liberation struggle role.
"The eulogies he has been given to mark his demise, glossed over this discreditable role he played in opposing the Land Reform, using the guise of human rights violations to sanitise that opposition."
A quick detour, to correct some of Charamba's factual falsehoods at the beginning before dealing with the premise of his shaky and flawed argument steeped in a mixture of truth, half-truths and fiction.
SW Radio Africa was founded by veteran Zimbabwean broadcaster Gerry Jackson in December 2001. Operating from London, United Kingdom, it was established as an independent, non-profit station to counter state-controlled media propaganda, following the forced closure of her previous initiative, Capital FM, by the Zimbabwean government.
It was not founded by the UK government.
Jackson was a radio broadcaster who was fired from ZBC in 1997 for allowing callers to voice frustrations during the food riots.
After her attempt to start the first independent station in Zimbabwe was shut down by police in 2000, she set up SW Radio Africa in London.
The station focused on delivering independent news, current affairs, and phone-in programmes for listeners within Zimbabwe.
It was forced to close down on August 10, 2014, due to a lack of donor support.
It was not established by the UK or any Western government as Charamba claims.
Given the UK's historical and deep interests in Zimbabwe, if it was a British government-funded project it would have had the enough resources to continue.
It was also not set up to oppose land reform.
That is simply false.
Masuku was invited by Sarah Chiumbu, now a professor
at the School of Communication at the University of Johannesburg while she was still at MISA, to work at VOP established in June 2000 after he was removed from ZBC among many other veterans.
It was formed as a production company to provide alternative news, counter state-controlled media monopoly, and give a voice to marginalised communities and the opposition, not to fight land reform.
Masuku became its executive director and a prominent voice in the story of its formation, but the station was bombed a week after he had joined.
VOP journalists soldiered on after the bombing, just like the Daily News ones.
VOP's board of trustees included prominent individuals such as Arnold Tsunga, Lawrence Chibwe, Nhlanhla Ngwenya, Isabella Matambanadzo, David Masunda, and Millie Phiri.
THE LEADER OF THE OPPOSITION IN ZIMBABWE, @nelsonchamisa, who had the 2018 presidential election stolen from him by @ZECzim and Chief Justice Luke Malaba on behalf of the unelectable @edmnangagwa, who lost the election, on the back of the violent November 2017 military coup!
Today, H.E. President Zuma’s first wife, uMakhumalo Zuma, launched her book titled Makhumalo-Zuma (Intsika ezintsikeni), a powerful reflection on the trials and triumphs of her life. The launch was attended by MK Party leadership and other dignitaries
#BhaskorONews! Mourn the passing of a great man :
🔹The story of Comrade Blessed Runesu "Bombshell" Geza is a poignant chronicle of loyalty met with repeated betrayal. It is the story of a man who fought for a vision of Zimbabwe that remains tragically unfulfilled.
🔸His journey began with the liberation struggle, fueled by the ethos of Gutsaruzhinji (the prosperity of the masses) and Nziradzemasoja (the sacred bond between the people and the liberators).
🔹When independence arrived in 1980, Geza placed his absolute trust in his fellow comrades. However, the dream of a Zimbabwe that served the many was soon traded for a system that served the few.
🔹Decades later, witnessing the decline of the nation and the perceived hijacking of ZANU-PF by the G40 faction, Geza became a key architect in the 2017 transition. He helped map the pathway that removed Robert Mugabe, paving the way for Emmerson Dambudzo (ED) Mnangagwa.
🔸He acted not out of malice, but out of a desperate hope that the new leadership would restore the revolutionary values of the struggle. Instead, he watched in dismay as that hope was eclipsed by Elitism over equality, Nepotism over meritocracy.m, and Cronyism over national service.
🔹The breaking point came when the presidency sought to mutilate the Constitution to extend its grip on power. Geza stood firm as a sentinel of democracy, defending the very laws of the land. Yet, in his final battle, he felt the sting of a third betrayal, the silence of the opposition and the apathy of the citizens he sought to protect.
🔸Despite the heartbreak of a lifetime of broken promises, Comrade Geza did not leave us with bitterness, he left us with a mandate. His final message was a clarion call, he said he will continue to fight from the grave, and we, the living, must defend our Constitution in real-time.
🔹His story is a painful reminder of the cost of integrity. We failed him in life by allowing his sacrifices to be overshadowed by political greed. Let us ensure we do not betray him again in death.
🔥 Rest in power Comrade Bombshell Geza! Long Live the fighting spirit of Geza! Long Live Our Constitution! Long Live Our Democracy! Long Live Our Freedom! Long Live Our Zimbabwe 🇿🇼 🇿🇼🇿🇼🇿🇼🫶♥️
