@ranrampant because this question here is a really important example of why our only resource canโt be others - even those who would do anything for us cannot control all of the variables, and neither can we.
@ranrampant a big thing that has been a genuine life-saver for me in the last few years has been building a โgame planโ or โfirst aid kitโ for these situations - either literally or just as a list in my phone of soothing and safe actions etc
@vivijellies @ChaosIsCrying it says a lot about this person that they are assuming youโre giving people โexcusesโ because of your word choice
lots of things are privileges that are also nice to have and use, like. the privilege to have an education and literacy! the privilege of a roof over their head!
the worst part is that there is still a human being on the other side of mass production. there is still someone making these garments, people are just pretending theyre not real - or are otherwise not bothered by someone working for pennies to make their socks
mass-production of consumer goods has made it not just impossible to charge what your time is worth, it has made people actually laugh in the face of the bare minimum concept of paying a human being anything beyond exact cost of materials
people actually will say to my face every other day โthatโs too expensiveโ to our absolute minimum charge, like I should be thankful for the opportunity?? I make $11 off of our lowest price point!!! if you donโt want to pay someone for their time, you donโt deserve the thing!

wordle has been kicking my ASS lately but at least i got this going for me
@ranrampant reverse image searching this made me so sad and mad to realize i truly had no idea whose face this was
it is a story that is so blatant in the lesson it teaches us that it almost feels like a deeply disturbed parable we tell kids to teach them not to lie
@ranrampant I actually donโt think I had seen her face so explicitly, before.
In general, Emmett Tillโs story was diluted heavily in the rural south - the teachers talked about this as a tragedy, but essentially refused to even discuss the person whose fault this violence WAS. like. wtf.
