The media landscape of our continent has changed. Online media matters, and politicians must embrace it. So I'm inviting @JustinTrudeau, @theJagmeetSingh & @PierrePoilievre to each come and do a long form interview on my YouTube channel in the lead up to Canada's 2025 election.
Some insane stats to consider.
Makes you really be grateful for the views you do get even if it isn't 1 million views.
You're already in the minority if you get 1,000 views on a video.
THE TRUTH ABOUT YOUTUBE…
(Bookmark this)
Here’s the data by the numbers:
A Successful YouTube channel isn’t decided by your views and subscribers…
Successful YouTube channels start with the ability to monetize your channel and you can build that into a profitable personal brand if you play your cards right.
Less than 6% of the 100M world wide channels (including inactive) are in YPP and monetized.
If you’ve achieved that you have the START of success because you have the OPPORTUNITY to earn.
Less than 10% of channels manage to get to 10K Subscribers…
If you’ve accomplished that, you can claim success, as there is no arenas where beating 90% of people is considered failing…
80%+ of videos not including shorts up until 2020 (according to 9to5Google) never reached 1000 views on YouTube…
According to a Study by PEX
1.9% of videos get 10K to 100K views
.077% get 100K to 1M Views
.069 get 1M to 10M views
BTW… most people are only watching bigger channels and videos with massive views, due to preselection bias:
3% of YouTube Channels absorb 90%+ of all views on YouTube (According tot the International Journal of Research in Germany)
YouTube Success is over represented by outliers.
It’s like saying making $100,000 a year is NOTHING because Jeff Bezos makes that every 12 minutes…
Success is something we can look at objectively vs subjectively…
But the problem is when you ONLY look at outliers among outliers.
Getting Monetized is already an outlier…
Getting 10K subscribers is already an outlier…
Getting 1,000 to 10,000 views is already an outlier.
Out of 100M there are only 65K Channels in the U.S. with a Silver Play Button Award… (100k Subs)
9500 Gold Play Buttons (1M Subs)
And 492 with Diamond (10M Subs)
For primarily English Speaking Countries less than 150,000 English Speaking Channels have 100,000 Subscribers…
There are only roughly 360,000 Silver Play Buttons and 36,000 Gold Play Button Channels in the World out of 100M (active and inactive).
Large channels are over represented at a glance…
There are an abundance of channels under 100K subscribers that are reasonably successful…
But that success isn’t acknowledged because EXTREME outliers are the only success that people will prop up, is the extreme…
To use the earlier analogy, the Gas Station Owner Making $3M (gross) and taking $300K home is invisible because he’s not Jeff Bezos…
The YouTuber making $100K a year on a 80K Subscriber Channel… doesn’t get their flowers… because they aren’t MrBeast…

The biggest unlock in our creator career was when we forged long-term brand partnerships
We finally had stable ground to make decisions like hiring and taking out studio space

Booking 12 months worth of brand deals required 12 months of good ideas for videos...and creativity doesn't like to follow a schedule.
So we started to take idea generation seriously, and recognized that there are 3 ways great creators come up with creative ideas for videos
In the early 1970s, the psychologist Edward Deci became intrigued by a simple question. What motivates people to do hard things? This is what he found 👇
I'm 28yrs, $50k in debt, no driver's license, never had a serious relationship, and spend most my time sitting, consuming other people's lives instead of pursuing my own.
2024 is the year I want to make serious changes & document my journey to be a little bit better, everyday.

The engagement on Threads is so much higher it feels like TikTok back in 2019.
The exact post I make on Threads gets 100+ likes where on Twitter it gets 0.
Not complaining, just an observation.
If you haven't tried Threads, give it a shot!
