@tibo_maker The line that matters is 'content was when we can, not systematic'. Cadence beats tooling: AI answers cite pages that stay updated, and a team that publishes when it can never refreshes. Curious if the cited pages are new ones or old ones that finally got a refresh.
@glenngabe This is the quiet cost of the scraper crackdown: rank trackers disagree, so a 'recovery' depends on which tool you pay. GSC is the only source Google cannot block, and it is also the one that now blends AI Mode into the totals. Fun week to read a dashboard.
@Marie_Haynes@glenngabe The international expansion is the one to watch for anyone reading GSC outside the US. AI Mode impressions already blend into the totals, so a market that 'gained impressions' this month may have gained AI citations and lost clicks. Worth splitting by country before celebrating.
@semrush The last section is the one most teams skip, and the only part that changed in 2026. 'Structure content for AI' in practice: a 2-sentence answer up top, a dated source under every number, a visible refresh date. Caveat: Google has said it does not read llms.txt.

@zuoteng Half right. The wrapper part is real. But a prompt library doesn't fix the expensive part: sources. Ask any of them to research a niche topic, batch link-check every URL it cites, count the ones that load but never say the claim. That gap is worth paying for. The prose isn't.
We're in private beta and onboarding a handful of test brands this month. If you run a brand with no content team and want to see the loop on your own site, reply here or DM. Waitlist: https://t.co/n30iAOPW2a
Every AI SEO tool lists the same 5 features. The difference is underneath: does it check a URL before it writes the sentence?

@sengineland The word doing the work is 'significantly'. To pay on it Google has to know which page's text ended up in the answer. That's page-level attribution for AI Mode and AI Overviews, which is what the impression-only GSC report doesn't give. The number matters more than the cheque.
@aleyda The extra trap: since Sep 8 AI Mode impressions get blended into GSC totals. So a store sees impressions flat or up, clicks down, and blames CTR or content. It's the layout. Pull the generative AI report separately from classic before diagnosing, or the YOY compare lies twice.
10-min test before paying $199-499/mo for an AI SEO tool:
Ask it to research a niche topic. Copy every URL it cites. Batch link-check them. Count the dead ones, then the pages that load but never say what it claims.
3 vendors we tested failed that second count. #AISEO
Google's docs (updated late Aug 2026): to appear in AI Overviews or AI Mode a page must be indexed and snippet-eligible. That's it. No AI text file, no special markup, no Markdown.
Anyone selling an "AI markup layer" is selling a file Google says it doesn't need. #AIOverviews
GA4 will never show your AI visibility. A zero-click answer satisfies the user and fires no event.
The only directional metric GSC gives today: month-over-month growth in distinct pages appearing in the AI report.
Track that, not sessions. #AISearch
@sejournal@martinibuster Generous word. Impressions by page, country, device and date. No clicks, no CTR, no position. And since Sep 8 AI Mode counts toward totals, so the headline moved without anything changing. The one usable trend: how many distinct pages show up in the AI report each month.
@mr_govindsingh Same pattern on the organic side. Since Sep 8, AI Mode impressions count in Search Console totals, so impressions look up while clicks fall. The query got answered, nobody clicked. Worth checking whether the pages with impression spikes are the same ones losing clicks.
@aleyda Telling detail: the widget lives in Search Console, the same dashboard that shows AI impressions with no clicks and no position. Google now reports what it takes and what it pays, and publishers still can't see which page earned the citation.
Since Sep 8, AI Mode impressions count toward your Search Console totals. That summer "traffic spike" may be a definition change, not demand.

Google's AI Mode now counts toward Search Console totals. No clicks, no CTR, no position. Only: were you cited.
