The lady at the charity shop today told me that she wishes people would clear out their children's old toys in the lead up to Christmas rather than after because she always sees a number of parents in the days before Christmas looking for toys for their little ones who might be strapped for cash. She said there's very rarely anything in just before, but that they get inundated with toys in the days after.

And it really made me think about it in a way I never would have before.

If you know your child is going to get lots of presents from Father Christmas this year, by clearing out your cupboards a few days early, you could make another child's Christmas a lot more special too.

Government has its vital role in society. Likewise, the judicial system. Politics has its place and, as voters, we all, of course, have ours. But as the church—the collective of Jesus followers in this society—our voice would be woefully misplaced among those calling down fire from heaven on people and communities that don’t want Christ. (Or those who don’t want or share our view of Christ!) Jesus turned on his heels and rebuked James and John for this very thing. Yes yes yes, we preach and teach the gospel of Jesus and with passion and strong conviction but as those who have taken on the same attitude that was in Christ Jesus. This is required of us in Philippians 2. I’m not sure anything can be more challenging but it is our responsibility. We’re called to walk in the Spirit, crucified to the flesh.

This doesn’t mean we’re passive. It doesn’t mean we’re always silent. It doesn’t mean we don’t rebuke or reprove. It doesn’t mean we don’t grieve. It doesn’t mean we don’t get angry. But it means we catch ourselves when our anger starts turning into sin. It means we choose to act and speak from an attitude that reflects Jesus. It means we don’t play God.

Such an incredible experience for fans to hear personal stories of how the Lord uses them on and off the field.

A Q&A was a part of the evening and fans even got to ask the players advice of walking with the Lord.

Texas officials are absolutely right to call out NWS for treating every storm like it's the storm of the century. Since Katrina there has been a significant shift in the way NWS forecasts and issues storm warnings. These days EVERY storm is the "storm of the century." EVERY storm apocalyptic. EVERY flood is the 100-year-flood. And in most cases - those warnings amount to nothing. When you cry wolf so many times, people will ignore you.
