Most historical and statistical evidence shows that life used to be shorter, sicker, poorer, more dangerous, and less free. Yet majorities in fourteen countries believe that the world is getting worse rather than better: https://t.co/uhCZvrnUvb
@NFLosophy@sflone I travel a lot, mostly to USA and Europe, and I can tell you 1. The states are just SO much more convenient than Europe simply considering logistics, and 2. Most people in most places get along, and are nice (Except for Paris!) but that’s just not an interesting narrative.
@UncommonYield@_nupe_IT@PaulSpacey American sports punish a lack of athletic traits to the point that the chances of playing drops to literally zero. Players are dismissed at the combine for small hands.
@UncommonYield@_nupe_IT@PaulSpacey Messi, Maradona, Xavi, Iniesta… as you said, they are exceptions… think about football, there are NO exceptions. We mock Kyler Murray for being a small man, but he’s taller than average, there are ZERO small tackles. In history. Zero slow RBs, zero small nba players…
@UncommonYield@_nupe_IT@PaulSpacey Paul’s text is that americans pay too much attention to athleticism, and not enough to talent. Obviously they all have to be athletic, but that’s the wrong approach.
I thought about this actually and I think noticing the exceptions is why this makes sense…
@UncommonYield@_nupe_IT@PaulSpacey I think the point that Paul is making (And myself) is that soccer rewards athletics far, far less than creativity, it has a lot of mechanisms to prevent physical attributes from overcoming ball control and skill. If you’ve ever played, this is obvious.
