In music you always hear the phrase “owning your masters”, but another thing that doesn’t get talked about enough is owning your fan data. As an artist you should have access to the backend of your email list, your pre-saves, and any other first-party data collection activities.

If you’re working with a label or marketing agency and they’re controlling these things, it’s crucial that you readily have access to the platforms that are storing this data, so you’re always in the know and can export the data if you wish. Full transparency.
