Most ed. reforms are mostly just about making kids work harder: tougher standards! more rigor! raise the bar! Yet Dewey reminded us that the value of what students do “resides in its connection with a stimulation of greater *thoughtfulness*, not in the greater strain it imposes."
Because someone believed in me! Doctor of Education 05.31.2020 ❤️ Special thanks to my family for supporting and encouraging me! Today is the day I was supposed to walk across the stage 😞#neverstoplearning… https://t.co/X1uss4MKsN
Take a deep breath. Here’s how we’ll tackle quarantine closures:
- Read with/to kids
- Encourage them to write daily
- Practice numeracy
- Create problem solving scenarios
I’ll be posting updates with my kids for the next few weeks. We got this!

TEACHERS:1000’s of you work in schools that have been canceled in the upcoming weeks.
Make it UR goal to either call every kid & say hi or write them a letter, telling them what you appreciate about them, recognize the strengths they bring to your classroom! #Significant72
Teaching may be the toughest job, but principal may be the loneliest job. They feel like they're in a tug of war between mandates & expectations of the district and the needs & support for the teachers. Its important for superintendents & teachers to remember & show support.
A simple yet profound statement: “Aim to be the teacher you would want your own children to have!” @ToddWhitaker This really made me stop and think about my own practice and what I can do differently this coming year.
Teachers, this year, remember that educate comes from the root Educere, meaning to lead or draw out. Education isn't about curriculum, programs, or latest technology. It is about drawing or bringing out the strengths, talents, & passions of every student. That's true education!
A2: One little thing we do is a staff spotlight by each door. It helps our Ss and staff get to know each other better! Template here: https://t.co/MbR1Wo7gTj #LeadLAP
