BREAKING
The Thai Senate has voted 130 to 4, with 18 abstentions, to approve of the #MarriageEquality bill, amending the Civil and Commercial Code to allow marriage registration regardless of gender and raise the age at which a person can legally marry from 17 to 18 years old.
The new legislation still need to royal assent to become law. It will then come into effect 120 days after publication in the Royal Gazette, at which point Thailand will become the first Southeast Asian country to legalize marriage for all.

"Vouer aux gémonies" : "Le Monde" affectionne (2 occur. le 24 mai) cette lugubre expression qui signifie accabler, vilipender. Elle vient de la Rome antique : sur l'escalier des gémissements (gemoniae scalae) étaient exposés les corps des suppliciés. Ensuite jetés dans le Tibre.
Dissolving the Move Forward Party (MFP) would violate its members' right to freedom of expression, association, peaceful assembly, and democratic participation, and undermine Thailand's effort to restore democratic rule after years of military dictatorship, said Human Rights Watch (HRW).
MFP's dissolution would also affect Thailand's standing as a "generally rights-respecting" country. HRW called on concerned governments to withdraw support for Thailand's bid for a seat on the UN Human Rights Council if MFP is dissolved. #ยุบพรรคก้าวไกล #ก้าวไกล #ศาลรัฐธรรมนูญ

BREAKING
The Thai parliament has voted 399 to 10 to approve the #MarriageEquality bill amending the Civil and Commercial Code to allow marriage registration regardless of gender.
However, parliament rejected a proposal made by civil society members in the ad hoc committee drafting the bill to include the gender-neutral term "primary parent" in addition to the terms "mother" and "father" to make the bill inclusive of all identities and families. Concerns have been raised ahead of the parliamentary session that such gendered language would limit the rights of LGBTQ people, especially those with children.
The bill will then be passed to the Senate for 3 more readings before it becomes law. The Senate, however, cannot dismiss a bill that has been approved by the House of Representatives but can ask for a bill to be amended. If a bill does not gain approval from the Senate, it will go back to the House for consideration.
