somebody once told Tushar Deshpande he was not tall enough to bowl fast. He is about 5 feet 10 inches though. He heard it, said nothing and went back to the nets.
Those nets were far away. Kalyan is an outer suburb and as an Under 13 kid he took crowded trains to Dadar every day with a heavy kit bag, just to train at Shivaji Park. Mumbai cricketers are built on those journeys.

His mother Vandana paid for all of it. She told him to spend on cricket gear, not fancy phones and she dreamed of seeing him play for India. In March 2019 she passed away from cancer at 51(after 24 chemotherapy sedsions). He thought of pulling out of SMAT,but his father Uday reminded him they are soldiers in life. 2 days later he took 4 for 19 against Delhi in Indore and dedicated it to her.
what I love is that he never stopped growing. He shortened his run-up stride to fix the no balls, learned the scrambled seam offcutter under Dhoni and took 21 wickets for CSK in 2023.

then his batting showed up from nowhere. In Feb 2024 against Baroda,at number 11,he made 123 off 129 balls, adding 232 with Tanush Kotian.highest First Class score by an Indian number 11.
Now look at last few months, because it has been something. In T20 Mumbai 2026 he smashed 126 runs at strike rate of 188 and also finished as the tournament's top wicket taker with 12 wickets.

Then India A against Australia A. In first game he took 5 wickets, In second, pitch gave him nothing, so he gave the team something else. Sent in at number 3 in 4th innings, he scored a gritty 52 off 119 balls and saved the match.

And yesterday at Wankhede, in his 50th First Class game, he took a hattrick and 5 for 17 in a heatwave (He also scored 44 in 47 balls in 1st innings).
His mother wanted to see him play for India and he still bowls like a boy who made her that promise.

@cricketaakash Ind is a young team a team in transition while Eng on the other hand have their best team possible. Eng in trouble at the Ashes. 4-1 is being generous. their media still dont question not having won a home a series is beyond appalling.Last time they won against Ind-2018, aus-2015
