Hi X, I'm Marc
Iโve spent the past six years in strategy consulting, after starting my career in investment banking.
I help companies figure out what the real problem is, what matters most, and what they should do next.
Iโll be sharing what Iโve learned about consulting, client work, and building a career in consulting and finance.
If you work in any of those areas, say hi.
Officially caught the builders bug.
Took me 8 hours and an inappropriate amount of time on Chat gpt, but, I have so far:
- crash coursed to into python
-set up a raspberry pi
- programmed an inky screen
- competed my first project ( a weather display)
- coding up a pomodoro is my next challenge
New from me:
Young people in Britain are some of the most well-educated in the rich world, but economic stagnation means that breeds not growth but frustration.
In fact, US workers who are functionally illiterate now earn roughly the same per hour as the average British worker.
4 am is starting to be the golden hour for productivity for me. Put together a facilitation guide and a client presentation and still had time hit the gym before heading to the office
Needed a new hobby and tech twitter successfully convinced that I need to get into hardware.
Picked up a Raspberry pi and and inky screen yesterday. Letโs see what i create
This is a good example of how capital structure determines who survives when a company gets into trouble. Lenders have the leverage.
Oaktree and HPS is banking on a huge turnaround
It appears that Blackstone's $1.2 billion private equity investment in Spanx has gone poof.
In an out-of-court restructuring, HPS took over the company. Oaktree's previously distressed first lien loan (marked at 70) got amended and extended into "New Spanx", maturing in 2032 and marked at 100 (although $ fair value remained the same).
Growing up, I had this teacher who would always tell us โYour first mind is your right mind.โ
Anyone familiar with old school Caribbean people knows this means: your first instinct or initial judgment is usually correct.
As a kid, I thought it just meant โdonโt change your answer on the test.โ But, the older I have gotten the more I realize it was really about trusting your judgment before fear, overthinking, or other peopleโs opinions talk you out of it
