Legal and Human Rights Centre (LHRC) cordially invites media houses, bloggers, human rights defenders, civil society actors, policymakers, researchers, students, and the general public to the official launch of the 23rd Tanzania Human Rights Report (2024).

The event will be held on Monday, 5th May 2025, from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM and will be streamed live via @HakiTV_ YouTube channel.

This year’s report is titled “The Resurgence of Unknown Assailants.” It offers an in-depth assessment of the human rights landscape in Tanzania Mainland and Zanzibar throughout 2024, with special attention to:
The alarming comeback of attacks and threats perpetrated by unidentified individuals ("watu wasiojulikana"), press freedom, civic space suppression, cases of arbitrary arrest, intimidation of human rights defenders, and political opposition.

LHRC has made it easier for all Tanzanians and international partners to attend, regardless of location.
This year’s launch will be entirely virtual and streamed live on Haki TV, enabling nationwide participation from the comfort of your home or office.

We strongly condemn statements made by the Dar es Salaam Regional Commissioner, Mr. Albert Chalamila, while addressing a gathering in Temeke on issues related to reproductive health. In a video, Mr. Chalamila is quoted uttering controversial responses to a lady who complained to him about challenges of reproductive healthcare which is free of charge.

This is not the first time Mr. Chalamila has made such remarks against women dignity in public.

We call upon and urge the President of the United Republic of Tanzania to take disciplinary action against Mr. Chalamila.

Tumesikitishwa na kufadhaishwa na kauli za Mkuu wa Mkoa wa Dar es Salaam, ndugu Albert Chalamila, wakati akihutubia mkutano wa wananchi wilayani Temeke hivi karibuni. Katika mkutano huo, ndugu Chalamila alinukuliwa akitamka maneno yasiyo na staha akimjibu mwanamke aliyelalamika kuhusu huduma dhaifu za afya ya uzazi ambazo ni bure.

Sio mara ya kwanza kwa ndugu Chalamila kutoa kauli za kutweza na kufedhehesha utu wa mwanamke.

Tunatoa wito kwa Rais wa Jamhuri ya Muungano wa Tanzania, Mheshimiwa Samia Suluhu Hassan, kuchukua hatua za kinidhamu dhidi ya ndugu Chalamila.

.@humanrightstz is participating in the 13th United Nations Forum on Business and Human Rights, taking place in Geneva, Switzerland, from November 25 to 28, 2024.

During the forum, LHRC is engaging in learning and sharing experiences on various key topics related to business and human rights, particularly in the development of the National Action Plan on Business and Human Rights, Human Rights Due Diligence, Access to Remedy, and the protection of land rights, especially for indigenous communities.

Tanzania is currently in the process of developing its National Action Plan on Business and Human Rights. LHRC is the leading civil society organization collaborating with the Commission for Human Rights and Good Governance (CHRAGG) and other development partners in this endeavor.
