Gentle reminder 📌
Everyone has the right to freedom from arbitrary arrest, detention or exile.
All states have a duty, regardless of their political, economic and cultural systems, to promote and protect all human rights.

#DidYouKnow?
Stateless people are restricted from participating in the economy, accessing jobs, opening a bank account, buying a house, opening their own businesses, or entering into legally recognizable marriages or family unions.

Freedom of expression is a human right!
Around the world, people risk intimidation, detention, and even their lives, simply for exercising their right to express ideas.
No one should face these risks.
Since 2 March 2025, Israel has prevented the entry of all humanitarian supplies and commercial goods, including food, water, medicine, and fuel, into the occupied Gaza Strip.
In recent weeks, Amnesty International has gathered horrifying testimonies from Palestinians experiencing severe levels of hunger and parents unable to feed their children. On 12 May, the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC) declared Gaza’s entire population is facing acute food insecurity, with half a million people – one in five – facing starvation.
Israel must immediately lift its devastating siege on Gaza, which constitutes a genocidal act, collective punishment, and the war crime of using starvation of civilians as a method of warfare.
🚨BREAKING: Six students from the University of Zimbabwe have just been arrested. They were apprehended during a peaceful demonstration where they were calling the government to pay lecturers living wages.
I am very honoured to lead the human rights movement at Lupane State University. We are mobilizing, educating and raising awareness about human rights in the institution.

As we celebrate the World Press freedom Day, we take this opportunity to demand justice and release of @bbmhlanga. We call upon the authorities in the country to uphold press rights and respect the freedom of expression. Bail is also a human right that @@bbmhlanga is entitled to
As we mark #WorldPressFreedomDay , Amnesty International reiterates the importance of journalism and freedom of expression. We also call on authorities to uphold the right to freedom of expression enshrined under Article 19 of the 1948 Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
More specifically, we note the continued detention of Blessed Mhlanga who was arrested on 24 February 2025 and charged with ‘transmitting data messages that incite violence or damage to property’.
Everyone has the right to freedom of opinion and expression; this right includes freedom to hold opinions without interference and to seek, receive, and impart information and ideas through any media regardless of frontiers.
Authorities must protect journalists and not persecute them to control the free flow of information. A free media is not only beneficial but necessary in a free society. By exposing human rights abuses and uplifting the voices of marginalized communities, the media can, at its best, encourage the proper application of justice and stimulate debates leading to better understanding that can defuse situations that might otherwise lead to conflict.
