One of the best ones I’ve read in a while. Thanks @RonBergerEL - using this with my staff tomorrow as we have discussions on relationships, reopening, and the reality of what’s really important right now. https://t.co/T1yLwK81k9

Students learn to read their world, resist dominant narratives & reclaim the birthright of their ancestors:
to be here
to feel & act
to speak truth to power
to love and know thyself &
have standing in the community.

@katiemartinedu Real world application for student discourse - we should only be diving into content that has connection points to the world around us. Students need it to feel invested in having big, important conversations around their learning. The value of that has to increase.
A great piece on the depth of action and the start that schools should take. I'm reflective of this as I work to create meaningful action with my staff in our learning community. #equity#education

I think often of Baldwin’s 1963 essay “A Talk To Teachers” where he says teachers must help Black children understand that *they* are not criminal, but that the *society* that created the conditions they were born into is the criminal. It’s the same today. https://t.co/8QuQm3gfov
I subbed for a teacher today, and I hung out with 10th graders for about 2 hours. We shared music recs, watched some videos, and I broke them out to hang with friends. I miss teaching a lot, and I have so much respect for teachers rn. I was lifted a lil today. #distancelearning

Want to restore your faith in humanity right now? Sit in a room full of teachers prepping for fall. They truly are a purpose-driven, selfless, grit-fueled group and it’s an honor to work with them. If you know a teacher, bring them a meal, or send them a note of encouragement. ❤️
JUST IN: Joe Biden has picked Kamala Harris as his running mate. She'll be the first African American nominated for VP by a major party.

That day when a little girl from Oaktown became the first black woman to be a major-party vice-presidential nominee...😭
So incredibly proud of you, sis!
