Costa Rica is the first tropical country in the world to fully reverse deforestation.

By 1987 its forest cover fell to 21%.

However since then it has rebounded to over 50-60%.

Today, more than half of Costa Rica is covered by forest, making it one of the first tropical nations to successfully reverse deforestation on a national scale and a global model for conservation.

This historic turnaround was driven by a landmark 1996 law banning unauthorized logging and the creation of a pioneering program that pays landowners to preserve and replant native trees. By replacing destructive cattle ranching with a thriving ecotourism economy, Costa Rica proved that environmental conservation can be highly profitable.

If Costa Rica can do this there is no reason why rich and developed nations can't follow in its tracks and reforest their territories.

It's important to remember that the world doesn't have to end up as a barren dystopian hell realm, things can change for the better as they did in Costa Rica, it really is a matter of choice for every person and every country.
