#DHEdinb are figuring out how to work as a team, assigning roles, figuring out how to speak to people's strengths and talents, making cards and lists on Trello like a boss and I'm ๐๐๐
I'd love to see @camss73121814's reforestation map but oddly it doesn't come up for me, either in Tweetdeck or on the regular Twitter web interface. Can anyone else in #DHEdinb see it? Twitter won't let me reply to the tweet either - @camss73121814 can you check your settings?
@weebugsy This is delightful - you should tell them next time you are in there for a pint! Maybe that inn was there even earlier than 1895? The @natlibscotmaps viewer might have an earlier map you can look at #DHEdinb
@Kaylalyak826 The @nativelandnet maps at https://t.co/7kY7e7Ty7g are amazing! I especially love how dynamic the site is: every time I return to it to show students (not just digital humanities but postcolonial too) there is more data, and sometimes the interface has changed #DHEdinb
The overview of @Iownawhat's #DHEdinb map shows how effective a tool colour can be to indicate that data points are related. Works well with the dark map tiles too. Intrigued by the 'excessive number of vaccinated children' category!
The historical placenames here in @Kaylalyak826's map gave her some difficulty, but she tracked 'Burrad Rojka' down to Bhariฤd. 'Peeplce' is also mentioned, and that's modern-day Pipฤli. Geonames's fuzzy search for the win! #DHEdinb
Map of selected towns with outbreaks of cholera, fever & leprosy, plus some smallpox vaccinations and a study on parasites by @camss73121814#DHEdinb
to @weebugsy's point about losing nuance, here's a lovely recent NYT piece by @tressiemcphd on Tiktok & blondeness as racial signifier ('social media compels us to read thinly, strip out all context & get to the part where we can be insulted as efficiently as possible') #DHEdinb
@teajayay@JamesColtrain Nice! I count 5 layers here - provocative question, authors & title, summary, link to your abstract and hashtag so the rest of the class picks it up #DHEdinb
Yes! A side effect of doing DH is that you develop a deep respect for information science professionals - those who work in and sustain library & archive collections. If you end up OCR-ing just one page of text in the next week or two you'll see how long it can take! #DHEdinb

Drucker makes the subject really engaging, and itโs scary to think about all the labour that goes into digitisation behind the scenes. Anyone who volunteers their time to digitise content for the internet, I salute them ๐ซก
#DHEdinb@weebugsy
@weebugsy There's room for snark on the #DHEdinb hashtag ๐ though the real challenge is combining that with substance so as to make it worth a reader's time, and the community's attention. This article is from 2012 which is a very long time in tech terms - what's happened since?
You & #DHEdinb are now conscripted into that movement! Losh's article is at https://t.co/9V6OSSWkDi & @Iownawhat's helpful abstract is here: https://t.co/TkKFM3u3VR
Admire the involvement of academics in the movement for information transparency (Debates 2012. Nothing more ironic that when govts say uni education is well respected, then refuse to listen to those with higher education ๐คทโโ๏ธ
#DHEdinb@lizlosh
Thanks for your helpful abstract on Mandell's piece @Kaylalyak826! https://t.co/uWY7UB7isA One welcome shift in DH has been away from questions like 'computer, can you tell me whether this author is male or female' to 'computer, help me interrogate the gender binary' #DHEdinb
"Writing like a woman" has always felt like such a gendered and arbitrary criticism to me. What does that even mean? @mandellc unpacks it brilliantly in this article on gender analytics and stereotypes #DHEdinb

@angleinaconte thanks for giving #DHEdinb a fine example of a thread @angleinaconte! I'll throw in the name of the author & title of the article - Kevin Ferguson's "Volumetric Cinema" - plus your handy abstract on #Zotero https://t.co/xyECzTd8Ym
