@Aella_Girl Pretty strange emphasis. Entering into that discourse seems revisionist. First hurdle when searching for lasting meaningful connection is superficial appearance. Once sorted, unless significant decline, should not be the focus. Stressful to always be in first-date shape!

@joarhalvorsen But as you allude to, guess the solution is more rigorous trails aiming to identify the effective components of diverse symptom-intervention effects. As opposed to looking at broad outcomes of elaborate (to the point of being baroque, EMDR I’m looking at you) protocols.

@joarhalvorsen Do not disagree about much shoddy designs in psych therapy trails, however, “placebo” is poorly defined in clin psych. Granted generating positive health expectancies is ipso facto curative, where does clinical efficacy end and placebo begin?

@joarhalvorsen I think we’re on the same page, I just suspect that some active interventions, one example being normalizing of short term stress reactions after trauma exposure, aim to produce something fairly close to common definitions of placebo.
