EL CAMPO - On August 19, the U.S. Department of @Energy@EnergyUnderSec Kyle Haustveit conducted a site visit at the AEP Texas El Campo Service Center following the July 7 closing of AEP Texas' $3.26 billion Energy Dominance Financing (EDF) loan. AEP Texas employees provided Under Secretary Kyle Haustveit a firsthand view of how AEP Texas is leveraging advanced technologies and operational practices to strengthen grid reliability and resiliency. Discussions included transmission investments, drone-enabled inspections, vegetation management and wildfire mitigation, artificial intelligence and machine learning applications, storm response capabilities, and field technology integration. Under Secretary Haustveit also participated in a field demonstration showcasing AEP Texas' Mission Intelligence Team and use of unmanned aerial systems to support transmission operations and infrastructure management. KINGSVILLE - At approximately 12:32 p.m. Monday, a public eighteen-wheeler struck a utility pole, causing significant damage to our electric infrastructure. The impact brought down three additional poles, damaged four crossarms and downed power lines, resulting in an outage affecting approximately 2,300 customers.
Crews responded immediately and restored power to approximately 1,700 customers by 1:22 p.m.
At 4 p.m., about 600 customers remain without service.
Due to the extent of the damage, repairs are expected to take several more hours to complete. Customers still affected can anticipate power restoration by approximately 10 p.m. or sooner.
