@AdeParimal A recommendation...a better analogy would be..."comparing Kilometres with गज़ or कोस"...even though गज़ & कोस used to be Indian system for measurement yet we can't hold on to it as it's outdated & we have to upgrade to metrics system.
India’s 7.8% GDP growth is being questioned. But the problem may not be the growth number, it may be how the numbers are being compared.
A lot of the recent debate around India’s GDP comes down to one basic statistical mistake:
Comparing numbers calculated using two different measuring systems.
India has shifted its GDP base year from 2011-12 to 2022-23, along with a significantly upgraded methodology.
The new framework captures today’s economy much better including GST data, e-way bills, digital transactions, gig economy activity, ecommerce, green energy and the unorganised sector.
So if we want to calculate growth correctly, we must compare:
New-series GDP with new-series GDP.
Do that, and the numbers are quite clear:
Nominal GDP growth: 10.3%
Real GDP growth: 7.8%
GVA growth: 8.2%
Manufacturing growth: 9.2%
Private consumption growth: 7.1%
The controversial 2.6% nominal growth number emerges when the latest GDP estimate under the new series is compared with the previous year’s number from the old series.
That is effectively comparing kilometres with miles and then questioning the speed.
More importantly, the 7.8% number isn’t standing alone.
Look at what is happening on the ground:
Bank credit growth: 16.5% YoY
Auto retail sales: +18.27% during Apr–Jul 2026
Gross capital formation: ~35% of GDP
Two-wheeler and tractor registrations are also showing double-digit growth, an encouraging indication of rural demand.
There is another interesting point critics should consider.
The new GDP series has actually produced lower GDP estimates than the old series for the previous two years.
If the objective were simply to inflate growth numbers, that would be a rather strange way to do it.
GDP statistics will always deserve scrutiny. Methodologies should always be questioned and improved.
But there is a difference between questioning data and mixing incompatible datasets.
India may have challenges ahead.
But 7.8% growth in a difficult global environment should not automatically be treated with suspicion simply because the number looks strong.
Sometimes, strong growth is simply… strong growth.
@microcp2mltibgr There are poor countries in the 'colder belt' too. In context of tropical region, we always had good rainfall so abundance of food & husbandry sources. Abundance gets indulgence. Indulgent population is lesser ambitious, egoistic & less enterprising. Lack of desire keeps deprived
@pvsubramanyam The XIRR for this SWP scenario is approx 12.02% PA. However, taxation will reduce it. Red flag is that any scope of better performance (which most likely will happen) is done away with at inception stage itself ! Are they promising this return even if market underperforms?
@Indian_Analyzer She might have been paid in cash or kind to create & film the scene. That's a possibility I feel. After the opinionated political movement started by @Cockroachisback under the garb of activism, such idiots are on a rise.
@AjayJadeja171 The entitled political movement instigated by @Cockroachisback has created such idiots. Committed students studied hard. Political ambitions shouted at Jantar Mantar. Idiots couldn't be at both the places due to their incapability so, they are now shouting on the streets.
@sneheshphilip The way this 'cartoon' woman is behaving, it's clear that neither does she understand collective responsibility nor does she have a clue about social responsibilities. The core reason is incapable parents providing entitled and opinionated values to an idiot child.
@LokeshVirat18K It's because his intentions are questionable. He had ample opportunity to prove his capabilities & intent but he decided to lay waste. That's because he doesn't care what happens to India. Once he gets 'the chair' he will subtly handover critical indian interests to oligarchy.
@InvestorOfJAMMU As dividend (D) is paid, stk price drops close to D amt, as the value leaves the company & given as cash.
Fund's portfolio value: stk value + cash received stays the same. The D isn't a bonus; it's a conversion of value that was already reflected in the stock price into cash.
@pvsubramanyam Yes. This is absolutely going to happen. A wise man used to tell me "In lyf, wherever you choose to focus, that automatically becomes strong". Since muslims focus only on political islam thru religion & good quality of life isn't their focus, so, this is bound to happen.
@UIDAI@PIB_MeitY@MeitY_NICSI Aadhaar website & app both not working for past 2 days. Trying since 11/8/26. Website & app giving 'server took too long to respond' error message. Is the website down?
@pvsubramanyam Sir, don't u think that now 'out performance of equity' would no longer occur. Primarily due to large scale equity adoption in India, likely lukewarm economy growth rate for coming decades and limited appetite for capex + lacking drive for innovation in Indian SMEs & corporates?
