Cancer, as the sign of the summer solstice, the Sun's greatest elevation, was considered nearest to the highest point of heaven – and by the Neo- Platonists was called 'the Gate of Men,' through which our souls descended to Earth to be born. We might have been waiting quite awhile till we were ready. Capricorn, Cancer’s opposite constellation, was the 'Gate of the Gods,' where the souls of the departed ascend once again, returning home after death, crossing Sagittarius and The Milky Way under safe escort with The Archer and Hermes/Mercury, the messenger of the Gods, returning to the place we came from.
