Pitched a movie to a studio. They liked the idea. They paid me to write the movie. I wrote the movie. After a while, they decided they ain't wanna make the movie.
I said "cool. Gimme back the rights to my movie."
They said, "Cool. gimme back the money I paid you."
I said, "Cool. What's ya cash app?"
They said..... "Cool pay us back what we paid you, and if you sell this idea to someone else. give us 4% of that compensation AND give us 4% of any back end profits you make on top of that compensation and if the movie spins off into a TV show you owe us a $5000 per episode royalty on not only that show but on any spin-off shows that emerge from that derivative IP including any characters that weren't in the original script. 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

To me, one of the best lessons we could learn from David Lynch is to stop demanding explanations of every piece of art from the artist who made it and instead let the art talk and decide what it means individually to you. What a richer way to experience the world.
Today I told the "why is six afraid of seven" joke to a class of first graders who had either never heard it, or just suddenly understood it. Three kids literally fell out of their chairs and rolled on the floor. Apex moment, never topping it.
Netflix execs tell screenwriters to have characters “announce what they’re doing so that viewers who have a program on in the background can follow along”
They also have thousands of micro-genres including “casual viewing” which is used for movies/TV that go down best when you’re not paying attention.

My kid came home from school yesterday and told me his class is supposed to dress up as Elvis for morning assembly. I told him I think he means elves. He disagreed. I can’t wait to hear how his day went when ‘The King’ returns home.
“I don’t have a dog in this fight” : normal, if grim
“I don’t have a horse in this race” : less common, but meaning obvious
“I don’t have a dog in this race” : subverts expectations; strong imagery
“I don’t have a horse in this fight” : spellbinding, transcendent synthesis
stumbled into one of Vincent van gogh’s letters to his brother and in it he says ‘If I’m worth something later, I’m worth something now. For wheat is wheat, even if people think it is grass in the beginning.’
