This is me right now. Two years ago I was shot during the June 25 Gen Z protests. I've been living with a spinal cord injury since, and I self-catheterize because of neurogenic bladder.
That led to recurring UTIs and sepsis. Today I successfully underwent surgery at Emory Hospital Nairobi to remove a bladder stone at my left vesico-ureteric junction (5x7mm). The fragments were removed. I'm recovering now with some pain and bleeding, which the doctors say is normal.
@VOCALAfrica_ helped me get here, and I'm grateful. But I still need medication, physiotherapy and follow-up care. I still haven't received any government compensation.
I'm sharing this because I need help for what comes next. Any support means everything. 🙏🏽

We put nine women in charge of a jury for two weeks and they tried to let a mom get away with strangling her kids. Then they launched a vicious smear campaign against the one black man who stood in their way.
So I’m confident Obama is full of shit here.
This thinking is not unique to you. Each successive generation believes itself the best thing since sliced bread. What is unique to Gen Z, however, and with the exception of a few bright sparks, is that you're perhaps the most unimaginative lot to have ever walked the face of earth. Grievance is your default resting state, which you mistake for revolutionary fervor.
You do not read, which might give you wonder & a more grounded identity. You are forever suspicious of the labours of existence. Work, family, the patient construction of life: everything was conceived to punish you.
You have, thus, been reduced to spectators in your own lives, which would explain the chronic emptiness you suffer, and the thousand traumas you are forever invoking. It's not sickness, just spiritual emptiness.
And because you cannot point to any one individual for your dissatisfaction with self, you carry a permanent grievance against the world and its systems.
Stripped of optimism and aspiration, as both demand imagination, you define yourself in opposition to things. But opposition requires justification, and since you have not cultivated capacity for critical thought and imagination, you reach for the easiest explanations to complex issues, which is usually a chewed moral slogan.
And when tasked to defend it, resort to insults. It is this you term “revolutionary spirit", which is, in fact, a handicap.
There is no backbone without a grounded identity, so you yield and defer to mental cocoons sustained almost exclusively by conformity.
And because the spiritual emptiness deals you anguish, your draw the greatest satisfaction from destroying rather than building. It's, basically, lashing out.
You burn everything for morsels of validation and call it fearless.
African Christianity can be incredibly loud about sex, clothes, sexuality and women’s bodies.
But ask about poverty, corruption, exploitation or abuse of power and suddenly the sermon becomes very spiritual.
A woman kills her 3 kids, gets $3M on GoFundMe, and receives endless support.
Meanwhile, the lone Black juror who stood his ground to convict her gets publicly shamed.
Society is completely broken
