Lots of crap being chatted by rival fans, media pundits and even some supposed Arsenal fans, but let's have a bit of perspective shall we..
2 seasons ago Arsenal came from nowhere to challenge for the Title, only falling away due to small squad & Saliba injury & a relentless Manchester City.
Last season Arsenal took the fight down to the last game of the season, winning 16 of their last 18 games, but were pipped again by City.
We made the Champions League quarter finals in Arteta's first ever campaign.
This season, very early on, Arsenal dropped points due to ridiculous sendings off of Rice v Brighton & Trossard v Man City, for 'offences' no other team has been punished for since. In both games Arsenal were leading and in top before being reduced to 10 men.
The long term injuries to key players have had a huge effect... Saka, Odegaard, White, Havertz, Jesus, Martinelli, Gabriel, Tomiyasu, Merino and Calafiori have all been missing for multiple games this season... at one stage, all 4 of our main attacking players were out injured!
The January transfer window was a disaster. That's the one area you can criticise the club, especially given all the injuries we were dealing with.
We went into the business end of the season with a defensive midfielder playing as an emergency striker as a result.
In the Champions League, we convincingly beat the holders Real Madrid home & away to reach only our 3rd ever Champions League semi-final, in only Arteta's 2nd season in the top European competition.
In the semi-final games, PSG were only the better team in the first 20 minutes of the home leg, when they scored from a speculative effort from outside the box that bounced in off the post.
The remainder of the games were very even, with Arsenal actually creating the better chances, but finding Donnarummer in incredible form.
When it became clear that Liverpool were going to win the Title, Arsenal naturally prioritised the Champions League... now we have 3 games to try and preserve 2nd place.
All in all, everything that could go wrong this season has gone wrong.... some of our own making, such as not strengthening the attacking options in January, but most of it just awful luck (& dodgy @FA_PGMOL)
Another season without a trophy is disappointing, but there are clear reasons (not excuses!)
Don't listen to the noise... Arsenal are back as a force and trophies will come. I expect big signings this summer now Berta is in charge... he wouldn't have joined Arsenal if we weren't ambitious, and he was a track record of getting big signings over the line!
When context is given, blocking out all the noise, this season hasn't been regression at all, Arsenal are top 2 in the Premier League and top 4 in Europe... despite everything that has gone against us!
I'm excited for next season, we go again... the challenges and disappointments of this season will have a galvanising effect on the Club.
Arteta will deliver.... bookmark this tweet! 👍
