The urge to speak to real software developers is overpowered by the imposter syndrome of being a degree-less web developer.
I blame my friends; CSS, JavaScript, and HTML.
While we're all in on AI, here I am being asked the most poignant question of 2026 by my "peer", a Senior Software Engineer:
"As I asked in my PR, do we need to continue to support IE8?"
I routinely and intentionally spell my name wrong for no other reason than the enjoyment of having confused another human into questioning whether my name was always spelled that way.
Asking devs to document what exists so UX can have a reference to do their job is crazy… Right up there with UX not knowing how to check accessibility for their color choices.
My coworker deleted a bunch of files, opened a PR. I reviewed and found that he deleted some things that should not be deleted. He said, "I did this programmatically and am surprised the computer made a mistake, I thought computers don't make mistakes..."
Me: “These color combinations do not pass a11y…” 🫠
Designer: “I used colors from the design system, here’s the link idiot.”
** checks design system **
Me: “I checked the design system and you used color combinations explicitly stated to fail a11y…”
My coworkers: wHy DoEs It LoOk LiKe ThIs?! 🥴
Me: “Have you tried refreshing the page or making the viewport full width?”
My coworkers: tHaNkS! iT lOoKs GoOd NoW!
Make it make sense. A senior developer has the skill of a junior developer but the title of a senior developer. His “peer” has to “bring him up to speed”. Reasonable?
Gotta make sure you cover edge cases:
"…a user could inadvertently scroll when trying to select a date, and close the calendar, which could lead to confusion, frustration, or (in extreme cases) anger (and possibly other emotional responses not yet considered)"
UX Designer: “Oh you want a design system and this new thing should look like all the other things?”
Me: “Yes”
UX Designer: * Produces ‘design system’ unique to new feature, independent of any existing elements * “Here! I made the design system!”
