Harnessing Digital Technology for Women Economic Empowerment (EmpowerHer) demonstrated that the interior regions and all other regions of Tunisia are rich in human capital and tech-savvy youth. Investing in these young people is investing in the society as a whole.
On April 8, 2017 five teams of motivated youth were selected at the final EmpowerHer competition in Beja, Tunisia, following Hackathons in all interior regions. That is when Ahmini; Carpet Plus; Hand&Crafts; Mazed; and She Shares started their journey towards entrepreneurship.
Happy Anniversary EmpowerHer.
My gratitude to all the youth who participated. A journey of passion, perseverance and innovation to empower rural women in Tunisia. Details on EmpowerHer are here:https://t.co/QfgCIIOWO5
Seizing the opportunities to keep women going is even more important now by addressing barriers, improving access to credit, upgrading skills (especially digital), developing networks and empowering women to have courage.
#Empower Her (Tech4Women) leaves no women behind. Two years ago, five Empower Her Startups were launched. One of them, “Ahmini” (meaning “protect me”) is now enabling thousands of rural women to enroll in social services for the first time by using a mobile phone.
A real resilience story from the south of #Tunisia named @HandandCrafts, a platform for selling traditional craftworks made by rural women from #Mednine founded by Amani and Asma and supported by #EmpowerHer a @WorldBankMENA initiative.
