🐕‍🦺 We're happy to celebrate our working four-legged furends today for #InternationalDogDay!

Our Canine Unit has been in operation for more than 60 years & employs more than 20 Police Service Dogs (PSDs). They each have their own specialties & are trained for general patrol duties, drug detection, explosive detection & human remains detection.

🦮 Our accredited facility dogs assist the Victim Assistance Support Team (@CPSVAST) with victims of crime, court witnesses & people impacted by traumatic events. Their comforting presence & calming demeanor make them excellent supports to those who have witnessed or experienced traumatic incidents.

🐕‍🦺 It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of our retired Victim Assistance Support Team (@CPSVAST) Accredited Facility Dog, Hawk.

Hawk blazed a trail of innovation & compassion, becoming the first dog in Canada to provide support to a victim in court during a trial. Through his work with the Service, Hawk touched the lives of countless Calgarians with his unwavering compassion & unshakeable dedication to serving others.

Hawk, our brave & compassionate companion, we thank you for your service, for the lives you positively impacted & for the legacy you leave behind. May your spirit soar free, knowing that you made a difference in peoples’ lives.

Rest peacefully, knowing that you will forever be remembered as the guardian angel in fur who walked among us.
