I pulled him aside and explained my understanding of You Shulang’s complicated love for Fan Xiao. He squatted there on the ground, looking up at me like a stray dog, quietly listening to every word. I don’t know if he understood. Just like I don’t know why I fell for him. 5th time was one night in Phuket. We were filming a vlog in matching outfits of different colors. On the ride back, he drove the motorcycle while I sat behind him, feeling the Phuket wind brush past my ears. In that moment, I felt a rare kind of freedom. I asked him whether “Boss Fan” was still afraid of the sound of the waves. I’ve already forgotten his answer. What I remember is the feeling of wrapping my arms around his waist. 6th time was in Thailand. We shared the same durian with two forks downstairs at the hotel, caught claw machine toys together, went to Pop Mart together to buy blind boxes. No matter what we did, he was always beside me. More importantly, together we brought Fan Xiao & You Shulang’s story to life. I have to admit… I think I couldn’t be without him anymore. 7th time was in summer. FanYou’s story had already ended, and we returned to Beijing together, entering a sort of withdrawal period. He was full of energy, after resting only a few days, he started hanging out with his friends in Beijing again. I watched his constant social media updates and hesitated for a long time before finally liking one of his posts. After that, he began chatting with me more and more often, telling me everywhere he went, every friend he met, endlessly talking away. Looking at the little cat stickers he sent me, I imagined the expression on his face at that moment. Mm… definitely just as cute. 8th time was in the recording studio. We had to record the opening and ending songs. Singing wasn’t his strong suit, even after the vocal coach worked with him for a long time, his voice still cracked. I sat on the sofa outside the studio, watching him smile awkwardly before confidently continuing anyway. 9th time was my birthday. Right at midnight, he sent me birthday wishes on WeChat. I politely replied with a “thank you.” But that night, he knocked on my door, carrying gifts for me and snacks and toys for Star & Douya. I tried to invite him to stay for dinner, but he refused.
