At 8:15 p.m., I rushed to the police station.

Inspector Chidi Nwosu listened to the recording twice. His face changed when he heard the voice threatening me.

“Daniel, did anyone know about the suspicious accounts you discovered at TEJU?”

I nodded.

“The finance director. Kola Bamidele. He threatened me before I was fired.”

Chidi wrote the name down.

“Why didn't you report him earlier?”

I looked at the floor.

“Because I thought losing my job was the worst thing he could do to me.”

The inspector's expression softened.

“Listen to me carefully. We will do everything we can to find your daughter. But you must not confront anyone or attempt a ransom exchange alone.”

I promised him I would cooperate.

But before we could make another call, my phone rang again.

This time, it was Kola Bamidele.

“You have been telling people that TEJU Group is involved in your daughter's disappearance,” he snapped. “Stop spreading lies.”

“My daughter is missing!”

“Then go and find her. Don't use a family tragedy to blackmail the company.”

“Blackmail you?” My voice broke. “You fired me because I refused to approve your fraudulent payments!”

He went silent for a moment.

Then he said something I will never forget.

“Your daughter will be much safer if you learn when to keep your mouth shut.”

The call ended.

Inspector Chidi immediately requested that the threat be preserved as evidence.

Before midnight, the story had reached the news.

The CEO of TEJU Group, Mr. Richard Teju, held a press conference.

Standing before dozens of cameras, he announced:

“This man, Daniel Adeyemi, is attempting to extort money from our company. We have no evidence connecting TEJU Group to his daughter's disappearance. We will pursue legal action against anyone spreading these defamatory allegations.”

I watched the broadcast from the police station.

The man I had once worked for was worried about his company's reputation.

I was worried that my little girl might never come home.

I called his office again.

This time, he answered personally.

“Sir, please. Forget the money. Forget the company. If you know anything about my daughter, just tell me.”

He sighed impatiently.

“Mr. Adeyemi, I have shareholders to answer to. I cannot allow every dismissed employee to turn a personal problem into a corporate scandal.”

Then he hung up.

I lowered my phone and began to cry.

Not because I was afraid of dying.

Because somewhere in Lagos, my daughter might have been crying too, and I wasn't there to hold her.

That was when a woman in a navy-blue suit approached me.

“Mr. Adeyemi?”

I stood up.

“Who are you?”

“My name is Barrister Zainab Bello. I represent a former TEJU employee who discovered the same suspicious payments you did.”

She opened her briefcase and placed a small envelope on the table.

“Your daughter's kidnapping may not be about ransom alone.”

I stared at her.

“What do you mean?”

She lowered her voice.

“Before she disappeared, Amara accidentally recorded a conversation she was never supposed to hear.”

My heart stopped.

“What conversation?”

Zainab looked directly into my eyes.

“A conversation that could send powerful people to prison.”

مرة واحد من الشباب توفي ابوة وكان كل يوم يمر على بيتهم القديم ويجلس عند الباب ساعة ويرجع
اهلة كانوا يحسبونة مشتاق لاابوة وبعد فترة قررو يبيعون البيت
يوم جو العمال ينظفون المخزن لقو صندوق خشب قديم داخلة عشرات الرسائل وكل رسالة مكتوب عليها اسم واحد من العيال الرجال

الغريب ان كل الرسائل كانت مكتوبه بخط ابوهم
الا رساله وحدة كانت باسم الولد اللي يمر على البيت كل يوم
فتحها وقرا اول سطر وتغير وجهة
كانت تقول يالولدي اذا وصلت لك هذا الرسالة فهذا يعني اني ميت قبل مااقدر اعترف لك بالحقيقة
