@stolensermons@PDeepdive@MarkSeddon1962 If you're looking to pivot to the intentionally manufactured domestic terror group that killed civilians at half the rate and a tenth the scale of the state to which it is subject, that'd be a folly. We're a century into this conflict and two decades past scapegoating terrorism.
@stolensermons@PDeepdive@MarkSeddon1962 1. The Netanyahu government needs to appear strong after massive security shortcomings last month.
2. Sufficient American cover and domestic support and regional apathy is assumed to permit ethnic cleansing and conquest of what remains of that portion of the East Mediterranean.
@stolensermons@PDeepdive@MarkSeddon1962 Palestine ranks 8th among countries. Gaza, due to the blockade and forced migration and bombardment, has a noteworthy density issue. The absence of expanses between settlements and Gaza's import make its use an acceptable shorthand. Probably in top 25 now due to Israeli assault.
@SenMarkey An apartheid state has displaced over a million people and subjected them to conditions in which starvation is only a mid-tier concern. A month ago was the time for the US to lead the world in a just end to this century-long oppression.
@gadishahak@washingtonpost I support the annihilation of Israel. Replace it with a secular state that respects people regardless of ethnic or religious background. Repatriate the currently living victims of genocide and apartheid. Call the thing Palestine. That's the ethical action America should take.
@ChewyWishy@CocaineNinja3@levarburton It's hyperbole. Throwing hands can be taken non-literally, especially in light of the absurd juxtaposition of LeVar Burton's audience and persona and the content involved. A literal reading is unwise here.
@CocaineNinja3@levarburton Thanks for wasting two minutes of my time by/ looking into your nonsense. For passersby, a conservative website is hyperbolizing comments he made about an anti-free speech organization. The full extent. Probably should've bothered to read the username Cocaine Ninja, but it's 9am.
@gadishahak@washingtonpost The boys in Hamas killed civilians at half the rate as the kids in the Israeli military, were on a deliberate suicide mission, and were in no way existential as a threat to Israeli sovereignty or security. The Israeli kids, however, are safely carpet bombing neighborhoods.
@gadishahak@washingtonpost The tunnels were used for relief as much as weapons as Israel has had full control over commerce in the region. Further, before October 7th, it held thousands of Palestinians hostage without charge. Further still, Palestinian rockets have killed around 5% of the number Israel has
@CJGrindley @washingtonpost There is one state committing terrible violence against humanity and it's trying so pathetically to tie its land grab to a bunch of brutalized teens and early twenty-somethings. How stupid do we have remain in the most discursive, educated, rich place on Earth to fall for it?
@CJGrindley @washingtonpost There's a genocidal apartheid state that's killed ten times as many people this last month than the rare instance of losses it has suffered and has a civilian kill percentage twice that of its domestic insurgency. It displaced as many people now as we did all Iraq in a decade.
@MarkHamill Israel is an apartheid state that is currently committing genocide. You see my profile picture; this is neither a costless nor uninformed take from me. Please reconsider and redress.
@UltraMa04464835@OptimoPrincipi Also worth noting that Rome, prior to the chaos of empire, was more conservative about social change than the states that industrialized. You need to tolerate a huge amount of social disorder to industrialize and the noble republic would not have had that.
@UltraMa04464835@OptimoPrincipi The Romans spent centuries on the brink of a steam age. This does not reflect well on their social organization or economic system. The modern world relies on all the diversity of its history to reach this point; Rome is a part we merely incorporate.
@Gamie505 @OBucsa @OptimoPrincipi For four centuries before the painting and for five centuries after it, Egypt was firmly under Greco-Roman control, its leadership strictly Greek. That's a lot of potential influence.
